Shionogi## Overview
We are hiring a field-based Medical Science Liaison (MSL) or Senior Medical Science Liaison (Sr MSL) to represent the Medical Affairs organization at Shionogi Inc. in the COVID/virology therapeutic area. The MSL/Sr MSL supports and represents our products with key opinion leaders (KOLs), clinicians, institutions, and professional organizations, providing meaningful scientific exchange in academic and clinical practice settings. The role responds to unsolicited requests for information about our marketed and developing products and acts as a scientific resource to company management on therapeutic area dynamics, business development, and KOL feedback.
### What this role involves
You will build long-term relationships and establish rapport with HCPs in hospitals, clinics, and academic centers through scientific disease-state and product discussions that support current therapeutic concepts and ensure safe, effective product use. Responsibilities include:
- Establishing, managing, and maintaining relationships with KOLs, HCPs, academic institutions, payors, patient organizations, and other relevant healthcare entities.
- Designing and executing plans for the assigned MSL region aligned to medical strategy and KOL priorities, and identifying relevant HCPs in context of medical strategy and patient needs.
- Responding to and documenting unsolicited medical and scientific requests for information and liaising with investigators on unsolicited requests for investigator-initiated research submissions.
- Delivering (and potentially developing/designing) fair-balanced clinical and scientific presentations for HCPs, payors, and patient organizations with medical review committee approval.
- Identifying and training speakers for advisory boards, symposia, and educational programs, and attending national and regional medical/scientific meetings and symposia to gather and summarize information and cultivate professional relationships.
- Evaluating competitor research and relevant intelligence and presenting findings to internal stakeholders.
- Collaborating across Clinical, Regulatory, Commercial (Sales and Marketing), Legal, Compliance, and other internal groups; providing disease state, clinical, and scientific training as requested.
- Completing timely administrative reports, expense reports, training, KOL documentation, conference reports, and other required documentation.
- Analyzing operational data, developing and tracking KPIs, designing training to build operational excellence, leading change management efforts, and identifying opportunities to enhance medical impact and operational efficiencies.
### Who we’re looking for
We prefer candidates with a Doctoral level degree in a life sciences program; post-graduate training in virology, infectious disease, epidemiology or related fields will be considered. Previous MSL experience in the pharmaceutical/biopharmaceutical industry is required, with previous respiratory infectious disease experience preferred; experience in COVID-19 preferred OR previous MSL experience preferred with previous respiratory infectious disease experience required. "5+ years MSL experience may be considered for a Senior MSL opportunity." Experience in the outpatient medical community and both pre- and post-launch product approval activities is preferred. You should demonstrate clinical, scientific, and technical knowledge in infectious diseases or respiratory diseases (preferred but not required) and understand pharmaceutical industry and business strategies.
We expect strong communication skills for presenting scientific and medical information to varied audiences, the ability to manage multiple projects, strategic thinking, and proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Outlook, Power. Point, MS TEAMS, and video conferencing. Candidates must behave ethically and professionally and be knowledgeable about current regulatory guidelines to ensure corporate compliance.
### Other important details
Ability and willingness to travel up to 75% of time by automobile, train, or air to accomplish MSL responsibilities. Typically, MSL travel consists of approximately 3 days a week in the designated MSL region and attending conferences and/or other meetings 6-10+ annually. Candidates must live within the boundaries of the assigned geographic territory and within a commutable distance to a large airport. Driving in a safe manner to required meetings and appointments is required. A valid driver’s license with a clean driving record and ability to pass a complete background check are required. Must have valid licenses and credentialing required to conduct business in assigned territory.
The base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000 - $220,000. Individual pay is determined by several factors, which include but are not limited to: job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The range does not include the comprehensive benefits, bonus, long-term incentive, applicable allowances, or any additional compensation that may be associated with this role.
